#HealthbyDesign is ...
Health is the willingness to get up in the morning and be physically and mentally prepared for the new day. When I see myself in a healthy state, I see myself this way. When I wake up on my bed, I am relaxed with a willingness to stretch naturally. I can feel my muscles are not in pain, and l want to get out of my bed to move around. There might be a calling for me to get myself really for school/work, while other times I just purely want to take care of myself with a nutritious breakfast and a shower. No thought about escaping reality is dragging me from taking actions. With a positive mood and good physical condition, I have a strong desire to step outside
and connect with others. I can feel my body is geared up for more physically and mentally demanding work, and I am not stressed out for the upcoming schedules. When interacting with others, I am curious about them and what they are speaking. I might be nervous if I first might a person/a group of people, but I won’t avoid interacting with
people. I am calm when dealing with emergencies, and I am self-disciplined to follow my schedule and finish tasks on time. I’m free from headaches, itchiness, muscle pain, or
generally a feeling of anxiety. I have the desire and willingness to explore my routine life from small little observations. After a fulfilling day, I am tired but not exhausted. I brush my teeth, wash my face, take
a shower, and then lie on my bed. I am not kept up by my phone, but ready to close my eyes and stop thinking about anything. I fall asleep naturally and sleep soundly for the
whole night. Although my description is personal, I believe what is the most personal is the most general, and the most genuine. Health is not only about not getting sick(it might be the baseline) but living a quality life. Even the awareness of health, of my mind and body is a signal of whether I am healthy or not.
Design is an implementation that suggests new ways to do certain things, through which people may gain convenience, new experiences, excitement, and eventually happiness. This is based on the scenario that the design outcome is successful. What if the design is detached from human behaviors or lack of consideration of circumstances? Bad design will hinder people’s curiosity to try new things, limits people’s freedom to move around, and/or leaves negative
impact on people’s mental health. Therefore, design is highly related to our lives, and our behaviors are shaped by those designs we encounter every day.
